Murphy's Laws. Author Arthur Bloch illustrates several of his Murphy's Laws, such as "diner's dilemma: A clean tie attracts the soup of the day." Cross processed photos by Isaac Hernández also available.
Cocoa farmer African Cocoa Farmers. David Gala has traveled repeatedly to his father's birthplace, Equatorial Guinea, to run into old family friends and to capture the beauty of this Spanish-speaking African country and its people. Thanks to this unique portrait gallery, you can meet a few of the neighbors of Bombe, where cocoa is harvested with the same tools left over from when Equatorial Guinea was a colony of Spain.
stone breakers Brazil Stone Breakers, Brazil. A battle between men and granite, fought with chisel, hammer and dynamite. Story and photos by Ciro Coelho.
Gay and lesbian families Gay and Lesbian Families. When adopting, gay couples have to leap a great deal more hurdles than straight couples (if they are even permitted the option). Children who are finally adopted are dearly wanted. These candid, friendly family portraits open the door to a world many don't see; even though it might be next door. The situations here are varied, from a doctor who adopted a baby at the hospital to two priests who left the Jesuit order, and later started a family. Photos by Isaac Hernández. Story by Northridge University professor Juan Antonio Herrero Brasas available upon request.
Henrietta Allais: Naked Truth. Her image, naked and defiant, appears on the cover of Helmut Newton's big book, “Sumo”. She has been exposed on billboards, two stories high, in major cities around the world, promoting the book, billed as "the world’s largest and most expensive book ever" (a single copy costs $5000). Recently, one print of the same photo sold for a Helmut Newton world record of $311,000 at auction by Christy’s in London. But the woman who took her clothes off got only $75 for the shoot, from Paris Vogue.
Neil Strauss: Author of The Game, Undercover in the Secret Society of Pickup Artists. In a grey house, next to Laurel Canyon Road, with a grey 1972 Corvette Stingray in its garage, lives the best women seducer in the world. Neil Strauss, a man in his thirties with a goatee, and a five-o’clock shadow on his shaved skull, opens the door. “I normally shave every morning, but today I was lazy,” he explains. He’s wearing a shirt, a vest and a tie, all grey, and blue-grayish jeans. Welcome to the home of the best pickup artist this side of the Mississippi, the one who tells all the secrets to get the women in his latest book.
The Treasure of Truk Lagoon, Micronesia The Ghost Fleet of Truk Lagoon. First came Pearl Harbor. Then the revenge: on February 16, 1944, during World War II, the US launched one of the most destructive attacks on the Japanese Imperial Navy, wiping out more than 26 war vessels, and over 250 war planes. Now the area is prime for historical diving (and tropical tourism); with these manmade reefs of war relics, surrounded by memorabilia, including M-90 tanks, and even ceramic figures among the finest you will ever see beneath the sea. Story and photos by Tom Campbell.
