The Dodge Brothers had been building engines for Ford Motor Co. until 1914, when they decided to make their own car. When asked why, John Dodge said, "Just think of all the Ford owners who will someday want an automobile." Much has rained since, and Dodge is probably thinking about all young buyers who someday may want a crossover, practical like an SUV, but more economic and less thirsty. Dodge Brothers Inc, was first absorbed by Chrysler, in 1928, and Chrysler would eventually be absorbed by Daimler-Benz, in the famous merger of equals of 2000. Nonetheless, Dodge vehicles remained a North American dream. Cubans once had them, and they still roam the streets of Havana in their rusted splendor. And the Dodge Viper has been exported in small numbers. Otherwise, Dodge has not been a truly international brand. Fear no more, Dodge is coming to a dealership near you. And the arrowhead to make Dodge a truly international brand is the Caliber, a new platform. It also sports the first CVT2 (Continuously Variable Transaxle 2 nd generation) transmission and the first electromagnetically controlled AWD in the Chrysler Group... |
